To go with their impressive opening to 2014 the Suns have kicked some goals off field.
The important signatures of Coach Guy McKenna, and key-forward Sam Day have been put to paper as the club embarks on what could be it’s most successful season yet.
CEO Travis Auld is yearning for stability and he is providing it in spades. “We are really pleased to confirm that Guy has agreed to a contract extension that will see him continue as senior coach through to the end of our fifth season in the AFL,” Auld said.
“During our establishment years, the role of senior coach hasn’t been easy and Guy has done everything possible to ensure our players, coaches and the club prosper in the future, and we are now starting to see this come to fruition.”
The Suns have never been shy or quiet about their lofty expectations, namely the fact that they are striving for a premiership by the end of 2015, and they think they have their man that will take them there.
McKenna while pleased about the added job security was more focused on the job at hand.
“We’ve had to build our football club from scratch, endeavouring to get ourselves in a position where we currently find ourselves; we now need to continue that and progress up the ladder.”
Sam May late last week also committed to the Suns illustrating the belief within the club that they are on the verge of something special.
“The boys are great up here and the club is heading in the right direction so I’m very excited.” May said of his signing that will see him at the club until the end of 2016.
Are you glad Guy McKenna got a contract extention? Did he deserve one? Will he be the man to take the club to its first ever premiership?
