The impressive debut AFL campaign of Adam Saad is over, Gold Coast ruling the defender out of the final two games of their season.

Saad, a mature-aged rookie, has been one of the high points of a disappointing campaign for the Suns.

The 21-year-old has played in 16 games for the Suns in 2015, picking up a Rising Star nomination for his round five display against rivals Brisbane.

But Saad's impact has lessened over the past few weeks as he has battled the ongoing niggle, culminating in an off-the-pace game against Essendon last weekend.

Suns physio Adam Russell says it's unclear at this stage whether Saad will undergo surgery or if rest will be enough to rectify the issue.

"He's played his last game for the year," Russell told Suns TV.

"That groin injury that he's been carrying for the second half of the season has just become a little bit too much and he's been pulling up worse each week."

In better news for the Suns, talls Sam Day and Charlie Dixon are both poised to play in Saturday's home clash against Port Adelaide.

Day was stretchered off the field in the two-point win against the Bombers but has been given the all-clear after scans in hospital on his head and neck.

Dixon is also in line to make yet another return from an ankle injury if he can come through Thursday's training session with no complications.
