Gold Coast captain Gary Ablett has vowed to join his Suns teammates for the start of the AFL club's pre-season.

The dual Brownlow medallist is still recovering after a season-ending medial knee ligament injury against Adelaide in July.

Ablett will resume running in two weeks and says he'll be right to take part in the opening day of the Suns' pre-season in early November.

"I'll be doing plenty in the off-season and I'll be ready to go day one of pre-season," Ablett has told the club's website.

"I'm looking forward to that."

The 31-year-old had a disrupted pre-season last summer as he continued his recovery from shoulder surgery.

In the end complications from that surgery and the season-ending knee injury would restrict Ablett to just six games in the Suns' underwhelming 2015 campaign.

The superstar midfielder believes the troubled campaign was just a speed bump in the club's development and he's eyeing off a finals spot in 2016.

"I've got no doubt we're heading in the right direction," he said.

"We're excited about having another big pre-season, getting fitter, working on the areas that we need to work on.

"I've got no doubt we'll be playing finals footy next year."
