The AFL tribunal has suspended Gold Coast defender Steven May for five matches.

The three-man jury took 10 minutes on Tuesday evening to decide on the penalty after May had pleaded guilty to his rough conduct charge.

His bump concussed Brisbane ruckman Stefan Martin and May appeared in person after being referred directly to the tribunal.
