Gold Coast Coach Rodney Eade has described captain Gary Ablett losing a lot of blood when he suffered a burst blood vessel in his calf muscle last Saturday night against the Kangaroos.

However, Eade is confident that his skipper will play against his former club, Geelong on Saturday night.

The Suns will already be without midfielder Michael Rischitelli (shoulder) and defender Adam Saad (hip) as both suffered injuries in the loss to the Kangaroos.

“There’s no doubt you’d love Gary at his best. I think he’s been more than serviceable. The Brisbane game was a down game, but I thought he was OK on the weekend,’’ he said.

“He’s just been carrying those little niggles here and there on his body from little knocks.

“It’s been fairly free run this week so hopefully he can perform at that level we’ve come to expect. If Dion plays, the midfield’s not too bad.’’

Eade also added that star midfielder Dion Prestia, who has struggled with injury the last 12 months will only play if he is 100% fit.
