Gold Coast midfielder Jaeger O'Meara will play his first game of Australian Rules football in over a year after a late inclusion in the Suns' reserves.

O'Meara hasn't played since rupturing a patella tendon in April last year but will play a half of the Suns' NEAFL fixture against Southport at Metricon Stadium on Saturday morning.

Coach Rodney Eade says the 22-year-old was initially overlooked for the match but declared himself fit to play and has been rushed into the line-up.
