Steven May will be on his best behaviour when he crosses paths again with Stefan Martin and the Brisbane Lions for the first time since his infamous head-high bump, Gold Coast coach Rodney Eade has promised.

The Suns host the Lions in Q-Clash 12 on Saturday afternoon at Metricon Stadium, the latest edition of a rivalry that many feel only got serious in round four.

That was when May ironed out Martin with a sickening hit that left the Brisbane ruckman unconscious, and the Gold Coast defender with a five-week ban.

It wasn't the first time May has gotten into trouble against the Suns' arch-rivals - last year, he was also suspended for cleaning up Lions skipper Tom Rockliff in a similar sort of collision.

However, Eade says there is no need to have a quiet word with May before the match to ensure he keeps his cool.

"I think we've had enough chats with Steven," Eade said.

"It was really only the one case and that case was so out of character for him.

"He's a physical player but he's such a terrific player.

"The work we see out of the game, on the track and off field is just fantastic. His leadership is just terrific.

"That was a once off. He took full responsibility straight away.

"I've got no doubt he'll channel everything on the ball."

Brisbane haven't won a match since their Q-Clash triumph earlier in the year, but Eade warned they are a decent side when they get going and shouldn't be underestimated.

"Brisbane's best is pretty good," he said.

"Even in games they've lost they've had good quarters here and good halves there and they get themselves up mentally for us, there's no doubt about that."
