The Gold Coast Suns have had a horror week so far with confirmation that veteran midfielders Gary Ablett and Michael Rischitelli out for the rest of the season, and Dion Prestia to miss a number of weeks with knee surgery.

However, the Suns have had their day made as versatile big man Sam Day has re-signed until the end of the 2019 season.

The out of contract South Australian was attracting interest from Victorian and Adelaide clubs this season, but has put pen to paper.

The former number three pick says he is looking forward to his time ahead at the Suns.

“My family and friends back in Adelaide are really important to me but started here right from the get-go with the SUNS and looking forward to seeing this through,” Day told SUNS TV on Thursday afternoon.

“There’s been some tough times with the boys but really excited for the times ahead.

“We’ve seen over the last four weeks now, the core group been playing together. Unfortunately we’ve had a couple more injuries to those really important players but really excited about what we can build here.

“It’s really exciting times for myself and then the club going forward.”
